Not on the Test

Check out this fantastic song/video by Grammy winner Tom Chapin, Not on the Test. It aired on NPR and is a sarcastic song about the problems with standardized testing, sung to his 3rd grade son. Check it out: http://www.notonthetest.com

Here is one stanza of lyrics, mid-song

Each box that you mark on each test that you take,
Remember your teachers, their jobs are at stake.
Your score is their score, but don't get all stressed.
They'd never teach anything not on the test.

And here's an article in NY Teacher, Union fights the trend that starts with teaching to the test.

Good stuff, thanks for posting. In fact, I thought so much of the song that I reposted to facebook.

Oh, wow, I'm excited to see this blog! It's on my blogroll now. I found you via your November article on The Daily Kos (TX ed), which @museblogger linked to on Twitter. I'm from your neck of the woods and have been following this week's meeting very closely.

I'm a Christian, and I just started seriously researching evolution/creationism/ID last summer, and fairly quickly came to the conclusion that I believe in theistic evolution--but that means I now have a lot of theological questions. (Grew up in a very conservative Baptist household.)

Anyway, I'll be reading, and I'm looking forward to that book.
